Item Description
Lot of three all c. 1940s. First is stationery sheet w/printed text at top left "Marianao Base Ball Club Habana." Top margin is signed "Raymond Dandridge" and this is followed by an expense report in his hand that reads "Newark-Miami-Havana Wife-Myself Round Trip $284.00 Hotel-Meals Expenses $150.00 Round Trip $434.00." All remains bold. Below this in another hand is check payment notation. Sheet has trace of aging, tiny pair of ring binder tears on left margin. Fine. Also included are a pair of original glossy news service photos w/pencil notations on backs including Ray's name and his Spanish nick name "Talua." Both show him in Tigers uniform. One is 6x7" upper body image in animated pose w/umpires in the bkg. Other is 8x10" game action shot of Ray w/one foot on base and reaching to catch a ball as Almendares Scorpions player slides toward the base. Fold lines around image as cropped for publication w/some pencil outlines to Ray. Nice pair to frame with the signed sheet. Ray Dandridge is considered by many to be the best third baseman in Negro League history and is a member of the National Baseball HOF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
