Item Description
26.75x27.25" frame w/Plexiglas over artboard w/archival mat w/19.5x20" opening displaying image area in India ink and watercolor. Dates to 1984 as Pete Rose is depicted in Montreal Expos uniform, Rose only playing for Montreal in 1984. Art features 14 different professional baseball players (as well as two reporters and crowd scene) depicted in caricature/cartoon manner. Players include - Wade Boggs (portrayed as a chicken as he ate chicken before every game), Jim Palmer (in underwear w/jacket opened to reveal "Top Secret" - an obvious reference to his Jockey underwear modeling), large image of Fernando Valenzuela at top center showing him standing in front of empty dinner table and lifting doughnut barbells. Greg Luzinski is depicted as a bull (his nickname was "The Bull") in his White Sox uniform, Billy Martin is depicted as a rat, Steve Garvey is depicted driving car w/Dale Murphy bobbing head on dash, Yogi Berra plays "Donkey Kong" videogame, Tommy Lasorda removes slice of pizza from oven, Reggie Jackson is depicted as an Angel in a wheelchair (an obvious play on his age), Pete Rose is depicted in dugout looking on as if bewildered by Alfred E. Neuman-like Expo player w/catcher's glove on his bottom, Dave Winfield is depicted holding a dead bird (referencing the 1983 game in which Winfield pitched, striking and killing a seagull) and a reporter tries to interview Steve Carlton, who has tape over his mouth as Carlton refused to answer press questions for the rest of his career w/the Phillies after a falling out w/the press in 1973. Art has been signed in ink by Jack Davis at lower right. Comes w/4x6" color photo of the artist in his studio holding this original. Image area is bright and NM. Framed and ready for display.
