Item Description
Pair of onionskin sheets, both w/mixed media prototype original art for 1940s baseball kit featuring MLB HOF member Dizzy Dean (1910-1974), who following his playing career, became a well-known radio and TV sportscaster, calling baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals (1941-1946), St. Louis Browns (1941-1948) on station WIL St. Louis (as noted on art offered in this lot). First sheet measures 13.25x17-3/8" and features rough cover art for "'Dizzy' Dean At The Mike," a book advertised as "A Bookful Of Baseball Hits" and w/Johnson's Car-Nu sponsor name at top. Cover shows Dean at WIL radio microphone. All text on cover has been hand-lettered. Sheet has horizontal crease at center and moderate handling wear along this area. VG/Fine. 15.75x21" sheet has more finished looking art for store sign and provides more details on the kit, w/hand-lettered baseball bullet points reading "An Amazing Authentic Miniature Baseball Scoreboard; Fascinating Hot-Iron Transfers Of Baseball Players; New 'Dizzy' Dean Baseball Game; Colorful 48 Page 'Dizzy' Dean Comic Book; Actual Movie Action Pictures Of Great Pitchers, Batters, Fielders; Handy Palm Size Umpires Friend Scorekeeper" and goes on to note "A Great Baseball Kit By A Great Player For All His Friends - Get Yours Now" above rough pencil sketch of car wax product at lower right. Horizontal fold at center w/tiny pull at center and faint vertical crease just right of center. Sheet has scattered handling wear but still displays Exc. w/bright colors.
