Item Description
15x23.75" vellum sheet has mixed media original art prototype for sign promoting series of 1950s 3D comic books. Sign shows front covers for "6 Different Books In The Series," images including dinosaurs, aviation, Western and "World Wonders" title. Other titles are obscured on sign art. Hand-lettered text includes "16 Pages Printed In Four Colors With Special 3-D Viewer - Look For One Of These Exciting New 3-D Comic Books In Every Package Of..." w/arrow pointing to silhouette of unspecified product package. Central vertical and horizontal fold lines w/number of vertical creases. "Free Of Extra Cost" painted text has some flaking but remains legible. Staple holes at corners. VG/Fine overall. Comes w/six 3-5/8x8" prototype comics, each featuring varying degrees of completeness, from a few panels (two panels per page) to a nearly complete example (w/just back cover left blank). Titles include - "See Our World And Its Wonders" (complete w/exception of back cover), "Aviation: Yesterday - Today - Tomorrow, Exploring The Kingdom Of The Sea, Heroes Of The Old West, Circus Fun" and "Menace Of The Monsters." each features well-done blue/red original art and each has bound-in "3-D Comic Specs" glasses. Themes/images include - Statue of Liberty, US Capitol Building, Mt. Rushmore, the Great Sphinx and Pyramids, Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh and Spirit of St. Louis, fish, Native Americans, buffalo, circus animals, dinosaurs and spaceships among others. Some scattered aging/handling wear w/trace oxidation to staples here and there. Fine to VF overall. An exceptional and extensive unique lot.
