Item Description
19-5/8x326.75" artboard has pen and ink original art for Sept. 21, 1958 Sunday page. Strip features art by Murphy Anderson, who worked on Buck Rogers daily strips from 1947-1949 and again 1958-1959. Page features nine illustration panels w/large title stat in first panel and shows unconscious Buck Rogers being carried by Sgt. Twilly w/Dr. Mettallion checking up on him days later w/message from Dr. Polaris. Buck Rogers appears in six panels. Last illustration panel has been signed by the artist. Fourth panel has John F. Dille Co. copyright strip at bottom. Blue pencil preliminary art visible. Last panel has text block stat advertising Buck Rogers Satellite Pioneers member's badge. Square of glue staining above this from missing stat. Artboard is evenly aged and has vertical crease just left of center. Lower left corner has some faint spots of moisture staining, infringing into image area, not overly distracting. Back of artboard has some scattered staining and inking. Majority of art remains clean and VF. Given Anderson's relatively short time working on Buck Rogers, his Buck Rogers art rarely comes up for sale, this being the first example of a Sunday page we are aware of.
