Item Description
Large and impressive 37.25x50.5” high quality wooden frame contains c. 1934 travel poster for Martha’s Vineyard. Poster has been matted to 27.5x41”. Features art by John Held Jr., one of the most famous magazine illustrators of the 1920s, his art defining the Flapper Era. Main image of poster shows group of people on beach around bonfire roasting hot dogs, having picnic and coming out of the ocean. Sailing ship at sea in bkg. with map image of Martha’s Vineyard “The Enchanted Isle.” Banner image of Canadian geese at top. Bottom of poster has serene scene of Martha’s Vineyard coast with “For Full Information Regarding Summer Homes Address Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Of Commerce Edgartown, Oak Bluffs Or Vineyard Haven.” Text strip at bottom reads “For Illustrated Booklet Address Passenger Traffic Department, Boston, Massachusetts - The New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Co. The New England Steamship Co.” Printed by Plampin Litho Co., Inc. Poster has some wear with minor professional restoration in upper right corner, mostly at right margin which shows some creasing wear. As framed, poster displays Exc. See Held original art #1961.
