Item numbers 1 through 1446 in auction 204
Item Description
6x8" sharp glossy sepia tone photo shows both on field with Rabbit Maranville wearing Braves uniform and Buzz Arlett in Philadelphia Phillies uniform standing directly behind him grinning. Photo dates to 1931, the only year Arlett played in the major leagues and for the Phila. Phillies. Reverse side has ink stamp for Acme Newspictures New York City. Photo has some handling creases with 2" vertical tear at top center repaired with a few strips of cellophane tape but not too offensive to image which is still glossy and VG. Nice bold fountain pen signatures. Rabbit Maranville had his major league debut with the Boston Braves in 1912 and played his last game with them in 1935 with a career average of .258 including 28 home runs and 884 runs batted in. Buzz Arlett is the all-time minor league home run king in the United States. Despite having a .313 batting average and hitting 18 home runs, fourth in the National League, his only year in the major league with the Phillies was lackluster due to poor fielding leading the Phillies to use him as a pinch-hitter most of the time. He wound up with the Baltimore Orioles of the International League in 1932 and twice hit four home runs in a single game. His record of 54 home runs in 1932 is the second highest annual total in International League history. A rare and desirable double signed image. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
