Item Description
6x8" glossy photo shows Sisler in St. Louis Cardinals uniform stretching out from first base to catch a ball. Lower left has "Best Wishes" inscription and signature in bold blue ink. Reverse side has typewritten caption on paper sheet "March 4, 1939 - Spring Training Camp, St. Petersburg, Fla., Dick Sisler, Rookie Son Of George, At First Base For The St. Louis Cardinals." Center right side edge has lt. handling wear just visible in reflected light. VF. Sisler played for the Cardinals in 1946 and 1947 and again in 1952 to 1953 and for the Phillies from 1948 to 1951. He is famous for hitting a 10th inning three run homer against the Brooklyn Dodgers that gave the Phillies their first NL pennant in 35 years. He was an All-Star in 1950. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
