Item Description
8x10" glossy shows three players in Cincinnati Reds uniforms in dugout. Lombardi is seated at far left and has signed in upper chest area in ballpoint pen. Paper caption on reverse dated March 5, 1940 notes all three are at spring training in Tampa. Catcher Willard Hershberger is in center and Jimmy Wilson, acting as both a coach and possible relief catcher is at far right with both holding catchers mitts. Photo has lt. rippling at bottom from applied caption on reverse, a few faint handling creases just visible in reflected light. VF. Hall of Famer Lombardi had a 17 year career between 1931 and 1947. He played with the Brooklyn Robins in 1931, Cincinnati Reds 1932-1942, Boston Braves 1942 and New York Giants 1943-1947. He was selected for the All-Star team eight times and was a World Series Champion in 1940 and the 1938 NL MVP. He was inducted into the Baseball HOF in 1986. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
