Item Description
8.75x11" nice reprint of an April 18, 1945 AP News Service photo shows both in dugout in uniform with caption at right "Gutteridge Congratulates Gray." Text refers to Gray as "One-Armed Left-Fielder Who Yesterday Played His First Major League Baseball Game" noting he hit one for four. Both have signed neatly in blue ink on their jerseys. Exc. Gutteridge played professionally between 1936 and 1948 and was with the St. Louis Browns from 1942 to 1945. He managed the Chicago White Sox in 1969-1970. Pete Gray was the only one-armed man ever to play Major League baseball. He played with the Browns between April 17 and Sept. 30, 1945 with a batting average of .218 including 13 RBIs. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
