Item Description
3.75x5.5" government postcard postmarked June 1, 1948 St. Louis MO. Has nice fountain pen ink inscription on reverse "Best Wishes, Eddie Dyer, Mgr. St. Louis 'Cardinals'." A few very faint hairline creases around edges, back has lt. impression from postmark on front. VF with Exc. autograph area. Dyer began his career as a left-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and played with them between 1922 and 1927. He managed the team from 1946 to 1950. During his first season managing, the team defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in the first post season play-off game in history then beat the Boston Red Sox to win a seven game World Series. During his tenure the Cardinals won 446 and lost 325 for a .578 winning percentage. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
