Item Description
3.25x5.5" government postcard postmarked McAlester, OK  June 1, 1948 has nice fountain pen signature with date on reverse. Card has lt. handling wear with trace of lt. dust soil. Fine with Exc. autograph area. Martin began his career as a short stop in the Oklahoma State League in 1923 and had a .340 batting in 98 games with the Greenville Hunters of the East Texas League in 1925. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1928 and played with them until 1944, ending his career with a .298 batting average with 1,227 hits and 501 RBIs. He was on four All-Star teams in the 1930s and part of the World Series Championship teams in 1931 and 1934. Along with Leo Durocher, Dizzy Dean, and Joe Medwick, Martin was a member of the Gas House Gang, and played in 1,189 games in his 13 year ML career. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
