Item Description
3.25x5.25" government postcard postmarked Washington, D.C. July 24, 1953 is self-addressed to Richie Merkin and is signed in fountain pen "Ted Williams" on reverse. Back also include ink note "Dear Ted, I Am A Fan Of Your And I Would Appreciate It Very Much If You Signed This Card. Thanks A Lot, Richie Merkin." adding "Sign Here:" just above area where Williams has signed the card. Merkin has used cellophane tape to hold two clipped photos of Williams in place on back. Tape has yellowed with age and has lt. handling wear. Fine. "The Splendid Splinter" played left field for the Boston Red Sox for his entire 21 year ML career and was a two-time AL MVP winner leading the league in batting six times and winning the Triple Crown twice. He played in 19 All-Star games and had a career batting average of .344 with 521 home runs, 2,654 hits and 1,839 RBIs. He was the last player in the MLB to bat over .400 in a single season. He was inducted into the Baseball HOF in 1966 and went on to manage the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers between 1969 and 1972. Interesting Merkin "Assemblage" as is but signature not affected and could be matted though we love it like this as a unique Ted Williams signed item. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
